Eigentlich schade…

…dass ich diesen Tipp nicht an die Zeitung geschickt habe. Heute morgen war nämlich ein großer Bericht über meinen alten Wohncontainer in der Dagens Nyheter. Dieser steht nämlich leer, und das bei massivem Wohnungsmangel für Studenten in Stockholm.

Dort ist zu lesen, dass das Gebäude einer Firma gehört und der Vertrag mit der KTH am 1. Juli 2008 ausgelaufen ist. Daher also der Leerstand, der auch damit begründet wird, dass die Küche nicht für die vielen Studenten ausgereicht habe. Das ist natürlich eine leichte Verzerrung der Wahrheit – näher an dieser wäre gewesen, dass ein Herd pro 10 Personen wohl schon ausgereicht hätte, wenn man die Leute dazu hätte bringen können, die von ihnen benutzten Töpfe abzuspülen.

Vielleicht tun die Verantwortlichen das einzig richtige und bauen den Container so um, dass er weniger Studenten fasst, aber dafür eine erträgliche Lebensqualität bietet. Wenn die Wohnungsnot einmal nachgelassen hat, kann man den ganzen Mist dann ja verschrotten.

Übrigens sind Container im Schwedischen immer Müllcontainer. Wohncontainer heißen „barack“ – irgendwie auch passender.

Wohnungsprobleme

Wie ich neulich schon angemerkt habe, ist die Wohnungssuche für Studenten in Stockholm derzeit äußerst problematisch.

Heute morgen hat Dagens Nyheter nun eine Übersicht der Wohnungssituation für Studenten in ganz Schweden publiziert. In den drei Großstädten Stockholm, Göteborg und Malmö, aber auch in kleineren Städten wie Lund ist es demnach äußerst schwer im Moment. Thomas fasst auf Fiket die Ursachen treffend zusammen.

In Lund hat man nun sogar Armeezelte als vorübergehende Bleibe aufgestellt. In dem Zusammenhang frage ich mich, wieso man eigentlich meinen ehemals heißgeliebten Container leerstehen lässt. Er ist zwar hässlich, überteuert und laut, aber immerhin hat man ein Dach über dem Kopf. Besser als ein Armeezelt ist er allemal.

So groß kann klein wohnen aussehen – meine 10 Quadratmeter kurz nach Ankunft in Schweden. Links am Rand sieht man den Eingang zum „Bad“, für das „Nasszelle“ ein erheblich treffenderes Wort war. Mittlerweile wohnt anscheinend niemand mehr dort. Das ist auch ganz gut so, denke ich.

Is this boring ? Yes, it is – therefore it is time to change the topic and talk about more cheerful things – like the pizza we had on our flat this week. Actually I wasn’t sure that it would be possible to prepare the dough without a mixer (or anything similar) and a rolling pin – but it is. And it tasted really good.

So, as you can see, we are having quite a good time here.

Today’s highlights will be:

  • The S:t Eriksloppet half-marathon in the city center and Södermalm. Well, I will try to run it, and the others will try to cheer – that should be a good division of work 🙂
  • Osqvik Party with the master students tonight – well, as far as I know the master students are not so much into partying. However I expect a positive surprise. After all a lot of people I know are there.

Home Sweet Home

Welcome to our international community where things are getting to run smoothly. Tonight there will live at least 13 different nations on our floor, probably more. Just a few minutes two girls from Georgia arrived, introducing another nation.
We had a great dinner with Pasta, salad and some German wine – „Pfälzer Landwein“ which came in a TetraPak. So we are quite a nice bunch of people here.
I feel pretty much at home, especially after I visited Lidl in Täby today. It does not only look like the German Lidl, they even sell the same products.
Later today Julian arrived, who not only turned out to be from my home university in Germany – he also studies at the same master programme. Seems like we had a lack of information in Germany. I thought I already knew all the students from Karlsruhe.

Prata Svenska – Lite

Es regnet, ich mache Frühstück. Es gibt wohl die letzten Erdbeeren dieses Jahres. Am Küchentisch sitzt Hector, mein neuer mexikanischer Mitbewohner, und unterhält sich mit einem der Chinesen über eines der Topthemen unter den Studenten hier: Unterkunft, d.h. wie die jetzige ist und wie man möglichst an eine bessere kommen könnte.

Ich diskutiere etwas mit. Die eigenwilligen Essgewohnheiten mancher Chinesen treibt groteskere Blüten, als ich erwartet hatte. Am Nebentisch sitzen zwei Chinesinnen. Eine von ihnen verfeinert ihr Frühstück – was auch immer es sein mag – mit Ketchup.

In English: The masters are coming

It is about to start. Three days after I expected a big wave of master students here in The Container – which actually turned out as a very small wave – new faces show up. I met some of them yesterday at the picnic for exchange students. It was the last big event of the exchange students‘ orientation programme. Tickets for a short trip to Estonia were sold – another auspicious event actually 🙂
